Anyway, if you can get an "ssh -v -v -v -Y " you can compare the -v -v -v output from that Linux system against what you get doing the same thing from your Mac. If that doesn’t solve the problem, check if your XQuartz is up to date and possibly reboot your machine first before contacting IT. In this case try starting a fresh ssh session. If this window doesn’t appear it means that the X11 forwarding is not working successfully. Maybe if you can do the same starting from a Linux system desktop to another Linux system (maybe via a VNC connection to the first Linux system). This should open an X window in XQuartz, such as in the example below. It is intended to be called from the ssh-add(1) program and not invoked directly. If you have tried all the above, and still failing, then it is time to add -v -v -v to the ssh command, and then look at the output to see if you can see anything related to setting up the X11 tunnel that is going bad. x11-ssh-askpass is an X11-based pass-phrase dialog for use with OpenSSH. If you do "printenv DISPLAY" do you get something like: printenv DISPLAY /private/tmp/2owme20/:0 Have you logged out and logged back in (or rebooted) since you installed XQuartz? Mac X11 Forwarding For forwarding remote X sessions over ssh you can use either Terminal.app (also found in /Applications/Utilities ) or xterm. I'm assuming you can actually connect to the remote system, and it is just that DISPLAY is not being set on the remote system. XQuartz is an open source version of the X11.app application that used to come preinstalled on macOS. Did you specify BOTH ForwardX11Trusted yes ForwardX11 yesĮither the -Y or the 2 forwarding options together should work.
